1979-89 As the new decade begun the Roscommon League

introduced a new Premier Division which Ballinasloe Town were

placed in due to their past record and they reached the semi final

of the League cup as the decade began. In the 1982/83 season

Ballinsloe Town decided to enter the Connacht Senior League to

test themselves at a higher level of football and the mid eighties

was notable for the clubs development of the juvenile section of

the club. During season 1987/88 Ballinasloe Town went close to

winning three trophies having won the 2nd Division Cup and were

unfortunate to lose in the 2nd Division Cup final losing on penalties

and reaching the Roscommon Knockout Cup but lost eventually 2-1

after leading at half time. The 1988/89 season saw some much

needed success at underage level with some great performances in

the Athlone & District Schoolboys League which gave an insight into

the youth structure at the time. As the decade came to a close success was only around the corner for the club.

1969-79 For the season 1969/70 the Club entered the newly formed

Midlands U-21 League. This was to be the famous 3 in a row team as

the Club won trophies in 3 successive seasons in this league and 4

trophies in total. In '69-'70 the U-21's won the Midlands Cup. The

following season they achieved the ultimate, the League and Cup

double and in the '71-'72 season the Club concluded its involvement

with the Midlands League by again winning the league. In the 1972/73

season the Club entered the Galway & District Junior League and with

the bulk of the team which had dominated the Midland League went

on to win the League title (Hibernian Cup) by beating U.C.G 2 goals to

1 in the deciding game. This period was a very successful time for the

Club as Soccer became increasingly popular in Ballinasloe as other

clubs were also playing such as Garbally United who were not just a

college team but were open to other players joining and Creagh United

another club who operated for several seasons competed in the

Roscommon & District League as well as Dubarry Apache. In 1974 Ballinasloe Town reached the final of the Ballinahown Cup but were beaten by Creagh United, after a couple of lean years Ballinasloe Town went close to league glory in 1977/78 when they finished level on points with Skyvalley in second place in the Roscommon League but were beaten in the play off for second place. The rest of the decade did not see much success for those clubs based in the Ballinasloe Town area as the new 80's decade commenced.
