1999/00 THROUGH TO 2001/02 SEASON

In order to compile as much of a comprehensive history of Ballinasloe Town

Association Football Club we have included the seasons 1999/00 seasons

through to 2001/02 for completeness despite not covering a full decade, the

subsequent match reports posted in other pages should lead to a more

comprehensive history. We intend to add to these years as we complete

our gathering of information.

1999/00 During this season we once again had to take the difficult decision

to field one Senior team as the club did not have a full complement of players

to field two teams. At youth level once again we entered a double figure number

of teams into the Athlone & District Schoolboys League with our U10's B winning

their League & Cup double, U12's A & B winning their respective leagues and

U16's narrowly missing out in their Final. It was in this season that current Senior

A manager Henry Loughnane & Niamh Connolly were both nominated for awards

at the FAI International Soccer Awards.

2000/01 This season saw the mighty Manchester United come to Ballinasloe

albeit the U18's who came as part of the transfer of David Morans. The game

finished 0-0 as David played in goal for the Red Devils as Tony Coyne & Declan

McCarthy took charge. This season also saw Henry Loughnanes first 'stint' as

manager of Ballinasloe Town when they won the Roscommon Knockout Cup in

a 'sudden death' penalty shoot out. at underage level U10's B won Division 1,

U10's C won Division 2 and U11's won the premier league title. The U14's made it to the last 8 of the SFAI Cup with a few familiar names starring in the team with Padraig Maloney, Gary Canavan and Liam Lynch to name but a few.
